Another heater plumbing question

Post by topcatcustom »

Have tried searching but can't find any with the same set up as me, I'm using an Offy 360 manifold with a small outlet on the rear, on the front there is the stat and a tiny little pipe built into the stat housing (???). It is an interim front cover so only has 1 big water pipe on the pump, no smaller inlet/outlets for ancilleries.

How do I plumb the heater matrix in?

I think I'm going to put a swirl pot in between the manifold and top rad hose, like some TVR's, then I will get a filler and expansion bottle in the system, the rad has no filler and is slightly lower than the engine water outlet.

The outlet at the rear of the Offy is the flow to the hater matrix - all you need to do is plumb the return into the inlet to the pump.

It's all done with the thermostat housing (which on the P38 Range Rover is in the bottom radiator hose). The heater return runs into the housing, and allows the thermostat to monitor engine temp.

Oh, so basically I need to put a pipe inlet in the bottom hose for the heater matrix to feed into?

Yup. That's effectively what the cast-in pipes are on the old style front covers.
