Cutting Front Crossmember

Well, now the manifold and adapter plates etc are done I mocked up the engine and it measures 1100mm top to bottom- hence why I am wondering if I can modify the front crossmember in the mx5!

Will add some pics in the morn when I get my card reader back but basically I think a chunk needs to come out of the crossmember and obviously strengthening elsewhere as I want the engine to sit as low as poss! Apart from ground clearance is there anything I need to watch out for?
