chev cortina

Post by barnsey »

Hey guys don't know if you remember me,I posted a couple of pics of this cortina on the old v8 forum, well my mate had it running sweet setting times of low nines and high eights.
He then swapped it for a L J Torana.
The new owners of the cortina fitted a 1000hp engine and changed the rear end setup and diff to cope with the extra power. unfortunetly the new set up proved to be a bit of a handfull.
its last run was timed at 156 mph on its roof as it past the finish line.
thank god for strong roll bars.

driver is out of hospital and back at work with some back injuries, but alive and well. this car was built by a mate of mine and he builds them strong, the car has been on the track for over two years now and has always run as straight as a bullet, the new owners thought they would try to get it to go faster and put a bigger engine in it, it was already running low 9's and high 8's , they were trying for 7's and put the larger engine in it and made a few changes to the rear end cutting out what had proven to be a good setup and installing there own, the new setup proved to be a bit of a handfull and has resulted in the car being totalled, but hey! there racers and they will be back for more. forgot to say that the car almost got into the traps on its roof as well, would have been a very scary ride.
