Swap from single hole tank to 4 hole tank

Post by keithdixon »

I have a p38 RR 4.6 which has a single hole tank which is looking a bit grim.

So have bought a 91L 4 hole tank and fitted into the spare wheel space.

Everything was straight forward with the swap
Changed the inlet pipe to JIC
Changed the outlet to 8MM
Power to solenoid as before

but....
My old tank level sensor has 3 wires, the new one has 2

My old tank has an AEB sensor which has 3 wires going into it (RED, BLUE, BLACK)

My new 4 hole tank sensor is AEB and has 2 wires (1 signal and 1 earth)

Does anyone know which wires to connect to

Old system
Vehicle wiring to sensor wiring
green connected to red
white connected to blue
black connected to black (Earth)

New system has white & black (Earth)

Thanks in advance

first why change tanks the only advantage is that a 4 hole fills quicker
as to the gauge you will need to change the switch/ gauge end too becuse it wil not read correctly , you will probably find your new sender is a 0 to 90 where as the 3 wire will be completly differant output
remember it's only a bodge if it DOSN'T worK

thanks for the response,

Do i need to change the switch (or just program the ecu to identify the new 0-90 sensor)?

If the switch which types do you suggest?

The kit is OMVL millenium

Change of plan, picked up an OMVL Dream XXI from fesautogas so decided to change the whole system.

Arrived yesterday with lots of wires, pipes and fittings.

I had a spare air intake which i have drilled for the injectors.

What i am wondering is where does everyones injector rails fit?
On initial glance there seems to be no room for the injector rails or the ECU.

So before i start ripping things out to make space does anyone have a sequential system in a Gems p38 which they can post a pic or 2 of showing mounting locations for the rails and ecu?
