Edelbrock 1404-1139 500cfm

just a quick question guys, would this "Edelbrock 1404-1139 500cfm" fit and run on stock 3.5SD1 came out of a rangerover, and been offered one, i know i need the offeanhuser inlet for it, but dont wanna spend out if its no good

Cant see any reason why not to go for this carb.
Would advise that you use the Edlebrock RPM manifold as opposed to the Offy though.
Much better inlet all ways round.

im guessing that the only difference between the 400cfm and the 600cfm is purely the amount of fuel it will deliver, would either the 400 or the 600 do the same job

Not quite.
The cfm rating is the amount of air the carb will flow ie cubic feet per minute.
The 400 is very close to the Holley 390 which is not the best should you up the engine spec and the 600 could be argued just a bit to big for normal road use.
There are plenty of much more knowledgable guys on here who could give you a much better picture of the pros and cons but you should get the picture.

Mark,

There is no Edelbrock 400 carb, there was a Carter 400 which the Edelbrock was developed from.

The 500 will work on a 3.5 engine but is a little large for a unmodified 3.5 engine and will need recalibration as it comes jetted for a 5.0 engine.

A Holley 390 vacuum secondary might be a better choice for your engine unless you intend to fit better heads and a hotter cam.

The Edelbrock Performer manifold is the best choice and should fit under a SD1 bonnet but check how much room you have, you can use a drop base aircleaner which gives approx another 1"-1 1/2" of space.

yeah sorry guys was my mistake....slight typing error, it was "
Edelbrock 1404-1139 four barrel carburator 500cfm"

i wasnt planning on going down the route moddying it too much, kinda just keep it at standard,

ok many thanks fella ill have a look and see whats avaible from the u.s.

Mark,

A further thought. if you have the original SU set up they will flow enough mixture to fuel a 200+ BHP engine so you will get no real advantage by swapping to a 4 barrel and fuel economy will probably be better with the SU's

yeah ive got a set of two su's and a set of strombergs, hmm yeah mite be a thing to have a think about fuel economy seeing the price of unleaded ha ha
