SU carb linkage.

Post by The Original Tom »

Rather embarrasing this...
When I built my engine I had a new manifold and new carbs, and the only bit of linkage I had was the bar that links the 2 carbs.
I had the original manifold, but that was for zenith (or stromberg? any way they were 2 carbs that weren't SU's) so the linkages on that weren't much good, and I obtained another SU manifold with linkages, but the cams on my carbs were different to the cams on the donor carbs, and they won't swap over, so it was a bit of a bodge together.

Any way it worked, and still works, but I was very disappointed with the performance, no matter how much I tuned it.

I had a brainwave, checked the throttle, and found my problem! When the accelerator is flat on the floor, the carb butterflys are only open about 75% of the way! No degree of bodging or tightening clearances can get it to open fully.
I really need to add a picture to show y'all, but I don't know how!!

Where can I get (new or used) throttle linkage for SU's? I can't find any on ebay!

Cheers
Tom.
