ROVER V8 - How do I build it as short as poss?

Post by v8trev »

Hi all,

I have a 3.5 Rover v8 engine (carbed, ex Discovery) which I'm putting in my car. I need to build this up so it's as short as poss.
Can someone please advise which is the best timing cover, water pump, front pulley etc to use to save as much space as possible?

Many thanks

The engine height will be determined by the intake system rather than the front cover (assuming electric fan).

I believe the MGB inlet was the lowest standard system, but it was also crap.

There have been discussions on this subject before - hopefully somebody else will say what the lowest aftermarket install is.....

Chris.

Err, sorry, think I may have confused the issue here - I'm talking about the length of the engine rather than height.

Depending on how desperate you are, you can use an electric water pump and slice another few inches off the front by doing away with the water pump pulley, spindle and bearing snout. Saves about 4" over the shortest mech water pump.

Real Steel list P6 water pumps and certainly had a bottom pulley/ballencer for sale, so all you would need is the P5/6 water pump pulley and a P5/6 alternator bracket

WHY are there so many IANS on this site???????
