£209 for rebuild???
guys, just after your opinions.......
I've been in touch with my motor factors and they have quoted me the above price for rover 3.5:
Main & big end shells
cam bairings
hydrolic cam followers (are they hydrolic??)
Bottom end gasket set
Topend gasket set
Rings - they are trying to sorce me some (aparantly the 3.5 ones are discontinued??)
Does that sound reasonable or would it be cheeper to buy another unit???
Also.... is there anything else I should add to the list above??? (used to rebuilds on mini 1300cc's!!!)
Cheers
Jono

Are you talking about the cost of the parts only?
A cam bearing set from RS is about £22.00
A set of big end shells is about £20.00
A set of main bearing shells is about £25.00
A set of 3500 rings is about £39.00
A set of standard lifters is about £52.00
So by the time they stick on about 25% mark up, you will be spending 200 quid.
The only thing you should add to your list is, dont try to fit the cam bearings yourself unless you are confident you can do it at home.

also if you contact the companies in the members discount section, you could save more money, just a thought.

I'll second that Tony. I have dealt with Shaun at V8 Devs and the service was great. Real Steel are good and they keep a good stock of RV8 stuff which they will ship out immediately from a phone order. Havent used V8 tuner, but I know people who have and they sang their praises too.

Re: £209 for rebuild???
If you're fitting new hydraulic tappets, you'd best fit a new camshaft too. If the old tappets are worn, then the cam will be too. A worn cam will soon knacker the new tappets!Jono FD3 wrote: Also.... is there anything else I should add to the list above??? (used to rebuilds on mini 1300cc's!!!)
Price for the parts sounds reasonable though!
Jeff
I bought my RS Gold card just over a year ago as I was about to buy my new tranny and some other stuff. Silly not to as I was about to spend 1500 quid. So the 10% discount came in handy.
