Engine Steady or not?

A few of the guys in the MGOC have also fitted steady bars to the rear opposite side of the engine to JC.. I was thinking of this, but my gearbox mount is really solid. However, When I launch hard, I can still see the engine trying to do a slight twist. Maybe solid mounts are the answer for me as well.
I dont really have the room for an opposite mount, but I could fit one at the other end of the nearside head to try and reduce the twisting motion.

I think we are in different ball parks Perry. :D
You need the stiffness :shock: due to power, where as I am only looking for longevity, or if that not possible I want the engine to last for as long asd possible.
I think in my case with all the info I have been given it is probably best not to fit any extra support, assuming that the new gearbox mounts are not too wobbly!!

Perry.

If you can make up a steady bar to fit from the rear of the nearside head to the footwell box that should cure the problem, as this position is almost halfway between the engine and gearbox mounts. The steady bar on the front of the head will still allow for some torque reaction but is ok for normal road use.

Your decision whether you fit one or not, but for the sake of £30.00 your going to curse having to renew the engine mounts on a regular basis.

I am now worried more about the -ve side of a bar than the +ve.
I am sure I will get more stability but I now think as the car is 90% for touring any increase in vibration / torque transmitted through to the shell will mean a more uncomfortable drive.
I have spent a fortune removing Spax shocks and Poly bushes to get the old MGB "good ride" back that I only now want to fit modern aids that do not detract from a smooth ride.
I would be quite happy to renew the mounts annually rather than lose any comfort.

Dont knock it til you've tried it.....

I can quite comfortably drive my car anywhere, with the engine bolted in solid, and have done, hundreds of miles at a time.

It was one of the best things I ever did to my car.

One of the worst ?? Rose jointed 4-linked axle...now that is annoying.

I know what you mean. :D I spend loads on Spax and poly bushes only to get rid of them on E Bay.
I found the former too hard and now do not want the sports as much as the tourer.
Horses for courses?
