E10 Fuel Detonation Overheating

Post by jimthesail »

Ahoy !
Have a rebuilt SD1 V8 in a kit car (small rad supposedly high efficiency), have blown head gasket due detonation (due overheating).
Is this likely to be exacerbated by E10 fuel ? In which case I am chasing my tail in trying to get it to run cooler with present set up ?

The chances of it being the fuel...are almsot zero.

If you have cooling issues, fix them

If you have tuning issues, fix them

:whs

How big is this rad?, and how thick?
Mine is more or less the size of a 17" fan, I can't remember how thick - I'll have to measure.

But it has absolutely no issue cooling.

What they said - E10 has a higher octane rating than the equivalent grade of normal unleaded fuel so the chances of detonation are reduced - the answer lies in correct ignition timing and the cooling system.

At 77 with a gammy leg rather dismantle and repair than tear to pieces.
Sounds like the setscrews hold in liner but alloy casting weak ? Worth
a try in my book ! Plan 3b will be fit another engine.
Kit car was running, I understand but my problem was fitting an electronic distributor
that had the outside module that clashed with head limiting timing. Suspect
ran with too much advance. Sorted that with horizontal elbow on thermostat housing.
