Similarly using the meter between the - terminal and any other ground points, engine block etc, will tell you if there's a hr anywhere.

This is probably the most important one - one tends to focus on the positive current path between battery and starter, but the negative return path (starter - engine block - earth strap - battery neg termanal) tends to be overlooked.
