Which axle???

Post by Coops »

As a few of you that was at retro the weekend know,
i had a slight axle problem, where it tried to divorce the leaf springs,

we are in the process of removing the capri LSD axle to see what other damage is done, besides the axle mounts, the tunnel the prop and n/s half shaft,

we are looking at possibly 4 linking the rear now, and not bugger about again at a later date, do it once and leave it.

what axles would you recomend as the cappa one must be near or beyond its safe limits now,
ideally it needs to be an axle thats availble and not have to spend months trying to find etc,
just want to do it now while its in bits and know that when it comes out next year with the charger on its going to be ok and not fail again.

Picked out a 8" for you, damn sight cheaper than trying to get Fostec to build a Atlas for you,
Or of course, get a Celica axle

so far,
both halfshafts are bent,
and the frotn of the diff has some play, the rear UJ is polished to a near mirror finish were it was spinning round against the tunnel roof,
and the uj is fooked, hope to get the axle out the weekend and inspect the diff itself :-(
and repair the mounts for now until a new upgraded axle is sourced, no more racing this year me thinks.

Coops - that is bad news

But on the bright side I believe Oshkosh does a good line in heavy duty axles and differentials - I think youwould battle to break one of those

Tony,

Sorry to hear your bad news, what width of axle and ratio do you need? I'll check out the Volvo axles.

I'm afraid those lowering blocks are to blame as they increase the leverage under torque reaction.

Kevin.
