Quaife LSD

Post by JC. »

I've managed to aquire a brand new rear 3.07:1 rear axle for my MGB GT V8 conversion project.

How much power can I put through this thing before it breaks?
I'm hoping to use this hard on the strip you see.

Would it take say 350bhp on a hard launch?

I assume from the title of the thread that you have the Quaife diff in the axle. If not I suggest you fit something because the centre pin in the original open spool is prone to coming loose with disasterous results.

Sorry JC,

The original MGC diff has gears inside which are on a bearing pin, that pin is in turn held in the diff by a roll pin that has a reputation for failing and allowing everything to fall out.

Since you do have the quaife fitted you don't have that to worry about.

What about the US GM 10 bolt....

Plentiful in the US. I know the modern Camaro guys get rid of them, and upgrade to stronger.

Stevie
D&D fabrications do the 10 bolt axle already modified to roll under an MGB and bolt up.
I'm still saving for mine. With the exchange rate at the mo this axle would cost about 700 quid + shipping + import duty. So a real good alternative to a UK sourced Ford 8" or 9" to fit an MGB. It comes with all the brakes as well for that money.
