Gearbox Mounts

Post by Chorlton »

I finally pulled the body off the chassis of my part built Morgan today.
The dear chap never fitted any gearbox mounts at all.

Its an SD1 manual box.

Ive been told to use the Mini Type 'Bobbins' on each siude of the 'V' shape bt that still leaves the base of the gearbox between the 'V' Supports sitting, metal to metal on the gearbox support crossmember?

Should there be a rubber mounting actualy under the gearbox end?

Anyone got any pics or recomendations

the SD1 just uses bobbins kinda like small engine mounts. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/rover/sd1/mountings the top part of the first picture. It shows a bolt going up through the middle but both the boxes I have had complete with cross member never had that.

Thanks for that.
If the rear of the box is actually touching the chassis though, would the vibrations transfer through?

yes it would, it also means your rubber mounts arent doing their job.

Ahh so there we have the problem
Even with the rubber Bobbin the base of the mount still touches the mounting plate.
So I suspect Im going to have to pack between the bobbins with some 1/4 plate which will hopefully lift the base of the box up off the mounting plate.

I was told that the Mini bobbins were identical to the SD! Units?
I suppose logic should have stated that I try the original ones, but I just believed what I was told DOH !!!!!!!!!
