your right, and i have just found an old type cam/chain ring and compared, totally different but i think it would be possible to machine in to the cam and fit a nose bit which could stick out, woodruff key would line up with it and the slot in the new cam. weather its going to be worth doing i dont ...

i dont think its been scientifically proven they save blocks, help maybe but they are put there just to cover holes required when casting as far as i know, yanks call them freeze plugs which confuses it all, plus theres no real excuse for letting your engine freeze? mine froze 2 years back, none pop...

already done them, threaded bungs would be easy enough but doing the block would have been a pain in the ass!

also this way any time in the future i can replace with originals, and its probably lighter lol.

i dont think so, if anything when you have steel and ali together in sea water, the galvanic corrosion rots the ali first, i think steel bolts rot the ali on landrovers? but anti freeze should stop any of that anyway. if there was need for a sacrificial anode of any sort like on a boat, i hope they ...

core plug sealant??

what sealant do people use? have machined up ali core plugs, so hopefully they wont corrode like steel ones.

yeah the cams correct it has no bit you talk of, is basically identical to the original, guess the options are original or risk trying to fit the piper one in. im sure i read on here ages ago you could machine something off the cover to allow it but i could be wrong and cant find anything on it now....

mines standard 4.6, with dizzyless end and crank driven oil pump/flat belt.

however emerald ecu so no need for cam phase sensor.

the piper one looks good so hopefully it might fit.

which chain/follers for my cam

finally got the cam sorted, got a H218 Kent cam, which it says doesnt need spring mods, question is presumably i can get away with standard chain? is there any point in different followers? its rev range is 1500 - 5000 but i dont really know what it would red line to? i will have fairly light valve ...
