Re: Range EFI 3.9 front cover oil seal
I would think the outside seal would fail in short time……no lubricatoon so seal will overheat melt/burn
If a double seal was a good idea the Rover boys would have done it at the factory

Re: Cleaning up a aluminium engine block
Instead of sand blasting try soda blasting instead….. same thing but bicarbonate of soda which is less harsh than sand. Also dissolves and washes away in water

Re: Oil Warning light on !
Normal oil ligh goes off between 5 and 10 psi
So yes I would expect spinning through the dizzy would generate that pressure

Re: Oil Warning light on !
Hi
Another method is to overfill the sump with a couple of litres so the oil level is above the oil pump so the pump will be full. Then crank it over..
After pressure comes up drain of the excess to leave the oil at the correct level.
Presumably it is good old dinosaur juice…20w50

Re: Oil in exhaust manifold ...
Sounds to me like you have no crank case ventilation and it is pressurising due to some blow by on the pistons.
Or the valve stem seals are pooped and the oil in rocker area is making its way in ….. probably along the inlet valve stem

Re: Rover v8 mx5 won't rev up
Start it in the dark and then give it a rev and see if there are sparks between the spark plug cables.
Rover manages to do this quite easily and will cause backfiring etc.

Re: EDIS timing map on stock rover v8 4.6 with 4.2 cam
Welcome to the V8 forum. First thing I would do is a reset on the 14cux, lots of fuel and not wanting to rev sounds like limp home mode. Easy to reset just remove the power / disconnect battery for 30 secs and then reattach. And pinking under load sounds like your ignition is too far adcanced, take ...
