Nice lump!
I'm going to stick with the SD1 front end for the time being but, where I go in the future is very open...

Re: Valve tip height
It's done now, one bank with the finger file the other draw file.
These heads have been skimmed a little too much for my liking anyway.
But I do have another pair of heads.- Thu Jan 23, 2020 10:12 pm

Yes, it's an SD1 front cover, its needed for the short waterpump as I want to keep the front end stock.
I have about 6 front covers to choose from.

Re: Valve tip height
I am where I am, the valves have been cut and the height of the valves are where they are. Yes, I put a straight edge across the top of the valve tips, this is how I found out they are not level. Removing the heads and having further machining isn't an option. So, what I have come up with is ...

Re: Valve tip height
Just had the exhaust valves done, the inlet just needed lapping in.
There is enough variation that I can't get all the valve preload within tolerance with any of the shims, one valve will have no preload and another would have too much preload.

I lapped all the valves in, rebuilt the heads, fitted them, and when I came to checking the lifter preload I discovered that using the shims i cant get all preloads within 20 to 60 thou. The reason for this is the tips of the valves ar...

1970 S2a Land Pig engine debacle
So, a "few" years ago I decided to drop a v8 into my Land Pig. So an EBay "of course it runs" purchase saw me with an early 10.5:1 3.5, to be fair, it did run although I'm not sure how as no.5 journal was a good mm smaller than all the others. Move on a "few" years and many more Ebay purchases has m...

Hi all, I'm new, be gentle...
Been lurking for a while and thought it was time to join.
I'm currently rebuilding a 3.5 bitsa which will be going into my 1970 S2a SWB Land Pig.
It's being a challenge and I'm having to think a lot, but I'm enjoying it.
