Re: Rover V8 cylinder head porting advice.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely sticking with the standard seats so I'm not planning on going much bigger in diameter on the throats. 36mm would be 1.3mm bigger (slightly less than the increase in the inlet valve size). Exhausts I'm thinking increase from 28.3 to maybe 29.5mm? This is more an e...

Re: Rover V8 cylinder head porting advice.

Next up I turned to the bowl behind the valve. Obviously the valve guide protrudes in to the port and was going to get in the way so rather than get the guides knocked out, I instead drilled them out. I used a 10mm and then a 12mm drill to open the guide out, drilling down so the hole went slightly ...

Re: Rover V8 cylinder head porting advice.

I'm bumping an old thread here but hopefully what I've got to add is relevant to what went before. I've decided to try and make the best use of the lockdown and have something constructive to show for it rather than sitting on my backside for days on end. I'd been thinking of getting some better cyl...

Re: Thor Bannana Plenum

Not actually an answer to the original question but if the basic issue is space on the passenger side of the engine bay, could you swap to a GEMS inlet and then rotate the top throttle body casting 180 degrees so it's on the drivers side. I'm pretty sure the bolt spacing will allow this.

Re: 3.9 later intermin Serp Engine project

Here's another more detailed picture. https://i.postimg.cc/MprpmyBc/DSC-0408.jpg The spacer is 20mm thick. It's bolted on through the centre of the tensioner into a hole drilled and tapped in to the lifting eye and also in to the head with a longer bolt through the existing lifter eye hole. Not visi...

Re: 3.9 later intermin Serp Engine project

I'm running just and alternator and water pump on a serp setup and I repositioned the standard tensioner.

I posted some pictures in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=15309&p=117028#p117028

Done over 8k miles on this setup with no issues.

Re: Alternator and Tension Pulley assembly problem. can you Help?

You really want a sprung tensioner with a multi vee belt. Alternator should be mounted solid. What is the black plastic pulley top right driving? I used the standard 4.6 sprung tensioner and moved it from underneath the alternator (where it clashed with the steering shaft and moved it to the front o...

Re: LT77 Identification - again

LDV400 if it's the same as the one mentioned in the 4th post here:

viewtopic.php?t=7540

if it is, then the low 1st gear should be easy to establish and might determine it's suitability for what you're using it.

Re: Lt77 from a jaguar details?

It could be but isn't there a suffix letter at the end of the number? That would give a better indication of what the internals are. Ratios could well be different to SD1 but knowing BL, they probably aren't.

Re: Rover SD1 Clutch Slave Fitting

I'm amazed anyone at rover in the 70's knew what a metric thread was. When I fitted my helix clutch last winter I had to swap the SD1 Master Cylinder for a bigger bore Defender V8 one because you couldn't physically press the clutch pedal. The inlet sizes were different so I ended up getting a new h...

Re: LT77 R380 parts interchange?

In a work no, R380 is heavier duty so the gears are wider and the bearings are bigger. Unless the R380 was in a pretty shocking state I think you'd struggle to find an LT77 in better conditions. I'm running an R380 now and I've rebuilt a few LT77's which can be challenging because a lot of LT77 bits...

Re: T56 to RV8 conversion.

The box does look huge but then strength generally doesn't come in small packages. If you've got the space to fit it and the determination to do it, it's got to be a worthwhile swap.

Re: Gearbox ID

CL prefix indicates it's a TR7 5 speed box. I've rebuilt a few LT77 boxes including TR7 and SD1 versions and haven't noticed any difference internally between them (other than speedo drive ratios). My suspicion is that Leyland Transmission (LT) supplied the same boxes to both the Rover and Triumph d...
