Cheers Kev, useful info, I wonder if mine is the same. Just to pick your brains a little more... ...when you say ran OKish can you describe it a bit more. Mine seems 10-20% down on power, revs round to 5,500rpm but sounds a little harsh and is a bit lumpy through the rev range (more so on low revs)...

My cam was 1 tooth out and ran OKish. I bought a Piper 285 cam for my Serp engine. Fitted it carefully and timed it to the marks. No adjustment on the Serp cams. The engine ran but it was down on power and I had a lot of problems with the mixture. Cutting a very very very long story short I checked ...

help identify camshaft
I've got a mechanical cam out of a RV8. I believe it might be a M238 but i don't know.
Do these markings mean anything to anyone? 1AEE 506106 903.

I've dug out the heads I'm intending to use and they look bog standrd 10 bolt heads with the 29ml volume. However, when I went to the shed to get them I found a pair of 14 bolt Vitesse heads that I'd forgotten about :D I reckon if I clean these up and do the usual, new bullet valve guides, 3 angle s...

It's along story how this came about, but I was going to use Wildcat heads with 36ml volume and changed my mind. The block had to be machined as it was out of true. The block is now decked square and true to the crank with the top of the piston now only 0.2mm from the deck at TDC. Not sure what the ...

Volume above the piston is to the deck. I've made an allowance of 1mm for the gasket. I'm assuming that I would take metal from the bowl of the piston, not the suish area. The diameter of 68mm is what I measure for the piston bowl inside the piston so It wouldn;t remove any metal directly above the ...

Someone check my maths please ?
I've been measuring my engine and I would like someone to check that my maths are OK before I do the deed :? Engine bottom end is a 4.8 with 94mm bore and 86mm stroke. (measured) Volume above the pisiton is 19ml, volume in the head is 29ml. (measured) I make that a CR of 12.2:1. (calculated) In orde...

I've just spoken to John at Real Steel who tells me that the heads are on back order and there's a waiting list. He says they can't make them fast enough they're flying out the door.

Merlin Heads
anyone using these heads from Real Steel? I haven't been able to find much independent info/comment about them on the web and as I need a pair of heads doing these seem a real bargain compared to having heads ported.

Forged cranks are quite expensive for RV8. V8tuner quote £2600+. I think Wildcat would be the guys to talk to about this, Their brochure says they can make steel cranks up to 92mm. I know a guy who's selling a brand new 4.2 (iceberg) crank, I can see if he's still got it if you want. The same fella...

MS can drive low and high impedance injectors. To feed a fuel only MS you will need the throttle pot, a signal from the dizzy, and a connection for the map tube. A wide band lambda is very highly recommended. On your current setup you won't need the ecu, flapper, or resistor pack. I think that's all...

Would it be ok to ground one of the coils outputs with a switch inline and see if i can get them to spark? Don't see why not, I've done it myself with a normal coil in the past to check it out. Have you wired in a 25uF capacitor on the input to the coils? This will stop it working if it's wired in ...

2 things are you running the Ford EDIS system or driving the coils directly? If you're firing the coils directly then the msq I sent has the correct settings, ( but you'll need your trigger settings) if the EDIS then it doesn't. Does the tacho give a cranking reading? if not then you may not be gett...

injectors
I'm currently using standard green RV8 injectors which are pretty old and condition unkown, I know nothing about injectors apart from flow rate and impedance. Cylinders 4&6 are running a touch lean, 1 is a bit rich and 7 is very rich. I assume that the injectors are goosed but don't know for certain...
