Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please

You could fit a programmable MSD 6AL unit, you can then 'lock out' your dizzy. You can then use a MAP sensor which gives you a vac advance system. The programmable MSD is a great bit of kit in my opinion! It has some good features, some of which I use but some I don't, I use the retard function when...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please

It a shame that you don't have a vac advance. Personally I would not push the idle timing up too high in your case because it is the starting point for the rest of the timing curve. In my case it is not the starting point because the system can actually pull out timing and therefore reduce it back f...

Re: MSD Pro-Billet advice please

I have read Des Hammills book on timing and whilst it is worth a read I don't agree with his method of find the best idle timing, in my opinion if the revs rise as you advance the timing then the engine is basically telling you that it likes what you are doing, why would you then want to retard the ...

Re: Oil leak, new Rover V8 headgaskets

The liners may well sit above the deck when the engine has been 'top hatted'. Some head gaskets have a copper ring where the oil is transferred from the block to the head, this type of gasket may well sort out your issue. I have a 4.6 that is not top hatted but I still smear a very small amount of s...

ISTR is is possible to fit the rocker shaft upside down which blocks the oil flow? Assuming the head gaskets did have the holes for the oil gallery?
It doesn't block the oil flow if you fit the shafts the wrong way round but it is supposed to cause the shafts and the rockers to wear out quicker.

Put the caps in the freezer few a few hours before fitting them.

Re: Rover 4.6 main bearing caps, very tight?

How easy was it to turn the crank? That will be a good indication of the state of the block, even more so when you put new mains in it, if the crank is easy to turn then in my humble it will be OK.

Re: No spark at plugs

What sort of rotor arm are you using? I have had big issues with cheap ones in the past, the insulation breaks down and the HT just ends up leaking to earth. The poor rotor arm misalignment that the standard dizzies suffer from does not help either. (What I mean by this is that the rotor arm does no...

Re: Edelbrock carbs, lean bog when running on the transition slots. (Throttle position just off idle)

Just a quick flow up in case anyone tries the air bleed trick that I posted up.....it doesn't work! :(

Drilling the idle fuel jet out a few thou does seem to work but restricting the air jet did odd things that I can not make any sense of!

Re: your thought please

You asked for our thoughts! If you are stuck with a 3.5 then fine but the fact of the matter is that people have an opinion on the stuff that you have listed and it is just unfortunate that it is not what you wanted to hear. If the Dual port was any good I'd say it was good! If the pistons are good ...

Re: your thought please

Not sure how good P6 pistons are either, I think that they are weaker than the later pistons. The CR thing is no issue, you can just skim the head and/or deck in order to get the CR that you want.

I thought that someone would mention throttle bodies! I think that Russell Ram has a point, in terms of BHP per pound spent.

Problem with four carbs on an RV8 is the irregular firing order. Unless you made some fiendishly complicated cross over manifold for them. But why go for multiple carbs when injecting is cheaper and better?
Because multiple carbs look great and EFI looks crap?

Edelbrock carbs, lean bog when running on the transition slots. (Throttle position just off idle)

Recently I have been messing about with my 500 Performer carb, I have modified the primary boosters so that they are now annular boosters similar to the ones fitted to the AVS2 carbs. I had to richen up the calibration of the carb in order to obtain air fuel ratios for all the modes of operation tha...
