I thought that's what you meant alright but wanted to be sure. Right, so I'll pop the rocker covers off and have a look. I'm 99% sure my stalling problem is electrical, because that's usually what a stalling problem has been. If I get the money I will put it on an EDIS system. Thanks so for the advi...

Thanks so much sidecar, I'm a biologist by trade and only dabble in engines when mine dabbles in problems so I'm not familiar with these things. Ok well the rocker shafts were removed from the old heads with rocker arms and pedestals in tact, they were checked for damage or wear, but seem fine, are ...

Engine Oiling - Do I have a problem?

Hi everyone, I need suggestions urgently if possible: I have a 1992 Range Rover Classic which I recently rebuilt the heads on and replaced the tin gaskets with composite ones as the gasket had gone. I bolted it all back up and it fired fine, after a few issues with the fuel rail leaking I ran it for...

I too have a gas conversion with a mixer ring before the TB. The intake for the idle control valve on a rover v8 has a hose which draws it's air from between the mixer ring and the TB, thus any air reaching the plenum gets in only from where the lpg enters.

Hi again everyone! Thanks very much for all the replies! The single lambda is actually for the feedback to the lpg, and the petrol ecu is a non-lambda type. After some time thinking the problems were getting better, and some evidence (no more white smoke, no more coolant loss, no exhaust bubbles in ...

Hi again! I have some updates: I isolated the LPG system from the coolant system, and am servicing the LPG vaporiser. There was no apparent change in the problem, still steaming! The lpg system also seemed to be in good condition so I cannot assume it was pressurising the coolant system. With the va...

Hi! I will check and see what sort of LPG system it is when I get home, I'm afraid I don't know off the top of my head! You could try swopping the lambda sensors over for a few days and see if there is any difference to the plug colours this makes sense to me I can try this also but How about swappi...

I see... Well I have been thinking about putting a set of ported heads on anyway, so I might do all of the above! Probably in increasing order of severity starting with the hot compression test and moving progressively closer to my bank manager.... I can see I have entered myself into an ongoing deb...

Hi everyone! Thanks for all of your replies! I am still a bit confused but I will have a go at investigating these problems. Firstly I run the car on LPG about 2/3 of the time, and petrol 1/3 of the time. Secondly whether running on petrol OR gas I still get a bit of white 'steam' out the exhaust. T...

No not at all! Speaking to me at a very basic level is best to be honest! As I have learned everything I know from trial and error, but have occasionally got by with dumb luck! When you sat to put cyl.1 at TDC firing is it sufficient to get this vaguely correct by looking at the rotor arm and turnin...

"Engineeringly inclined" would be an overstatement of my abilities and an understatement of my ambition!  I will have a go at dismantling the engine this weekend and see what I find (I'll post pics of the carnage!). I have some old heads I will check for warping as you've described. If th...

Hi Mike, thanks for the advice. I haven't done a hydrocarbon test on the coolant yet, I might well still do so, but I suspect this will be positive as there is a slight whiff of exhaust gas from the header/expansion tank when opened up. If I do the test and it is positive does that mean it is defini...

Rover V8 3.9 EFI - some running issues!

Hi everyone, I am new here and have no mechanical training other than owning a haynes manual and plenty of trial and error, so be gentle! I have a 1992 EFI 3.9 Range rover. She's converted to run on LPG via a vapouriser system, not injection. A few months ago I had an issue where one of the hoses le...
