are you sure it was a spark problem and not a fuel flow problem? if there wasn't enough power getting to the pump it might not have been able to shift enough fuel?

if that much fuel got in to a cylinder or two, could there be some fuel left puddled in the inlet manifold still? i'm not sure if there is even anywhere for the fuel to sit

my dads old carb'd 3.5 v8 in a rangerover had some sort of emissions control gubbins on it that recirculated exhaust gases somehow through those ports. i cant remember how it works but i know when the little pipes broke it sounded awful.

the sound i'm worried about with the new engine wasn't there with the old one, so it's either something i disturbed when swapping it over, or something I've done wrong. it is an auto, and as far as i can tell the torque converter didn't move at all when i removed the old engine. yes the flywheel bol...

thanks guys
its not a squealing sound, its whistling in the air intake. i think the LPG venturi makes most of the noise.

i had thought about taking the fan belt, but not got round to it yet.

nasty noise on my new v8

I've just swapped the 3.9 v8 in my discovery to cure a noise i thought was a slipped liner. turns out it wasn't slipped at all, but that's a different story. the engine that's gone in came from a friend who removed it to fit a 4.6, it had no noises when it was in his car. the parts i had to swap ove...

yes, the closed loop system will use a lambda sensor in the exhaust to monitor the air/fuel mix, and adjust the gas flow accordingly. the butterflies in the carbs will still be needed to control how much air and fuel get into the engine

i've got a kit from tinley tech on my discovery, its probably quite similar i lose a few mpg on gas vs petrol, but as you're running carbs i'd guess you might actually see an improvement. getting it certified cost me a bit more than 50, i think it was more like £150? other than that, just go for it....

v8 problems

while prepping a replacement V8 for my disco today i found some worrying bits of metal in the sump, which looked a bit like they were part of a piston. so i looked up inside the block and found this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RVq5Gb79VVY/UB1YQ55Ka0I/AAAAAAAAAEM/FQU_Aeo_kCs/s640/20120804_131...
