Re: Oil pump switch Rover V8
Assuming the thread is the same, I doubt it being shorter makes any practical difference. You'd be best to check the oil pressure with a known accurate gauge. The light flickering at idle with a hot engine - especially with some modern oils - may not be anything to worry about.

Re: Oil pump switch Rover V8
Do you mean the oil pressure warning light switch, or the gauge sender?

Re: SD1 Timing Marks
Started from scratch again and found timed up on a different plug as 'No.1' Putting strobe light on the actual 'No.1' meant timing marks not illuminated. Had difficulties in getting sufficient retardation with electronic distributor as attached module clashed with cylinder head. Fitted horizontal t...

Re: Oil pump gears modification
If you look at an old bottom plate, it is often scratched. Perhaps an attempt to prevent this? Not sure whether it would make any difference, though.

Re: Crankshaft Pulley wear
The sleeve is very thin spring steel and a tight fit with a shoulder at one end. The kit you get has lubricant and applier. You simply bash it into place and then snap off the shoulder. The existing seal will fit over it - but I'd get a new one to a better spec at the same time from Simply Bearings....

Do sleeve kits to go over the worn part of the pulley. Much cheaper than a new assembly. Used one on my SD1.

Re: SD1 Timing Marks
SD1 pulleys have an engraved scale on the vibration damper. If it is a bit rusty, may need cleaning with wire wool, etc.

Re: 1985 TVR 350i, stabilised voltage for instruments?
The SD1 has the instruments in a pod which can be removed fairly easily. A PCB connects all the instruments, and the harness plugs into that.

Did you ground the sensor for some time? Hotwire gauges move slowly.
BTW, I've redrawn the Vitesse wiring diagram in colour, which makes it easier to follow a circuit. If you'd like it PM me with an email address and I'll send the PDF.

Very important to use the correct anti-freeze all year round - or an inhibitor to prevent corrosion.

I don't think they made a cast one in the SD1 shape - all at the back to clear the cross member?

Re: Rover 3.5 Newbury
It can be done on my SD1 by removing the rad and lifting the AC condenser a bit. Should be easy enough to work out if possible. Also quite easy to check on the valve lift by removing the rocker covers. As the lobes on the cam won't be worn evenly on the several I've seen.

Re: Rover 3.5 Newbury
First thing is to check the ignition timing. Easy to do with a timing light. But on an unknown old RV8, it's likely the camshaft is worn out.

Re: Engine stumbles powering thru corners
Can't really see a B GT reaching cornering forces other cars with the same carb couldn't? And if it has baffling known to work, it then must be the supply failing to keep up (as the float chamber would soon empty when racing)? But no idea why. And no idea why it should go rich either. Weak I can und...

Re: Engine stumbles powering thru corners
Not an expert on Edelbrock carbs - if I wasn't happy with SUs I'd go for injection. But they are a common mod for the RV8, so I'd be looking for something basic? Unless twin feeds to a carb come into that category?
