Re: Can Rover sd1 2.4 TD gearbox be fitted to v8 engine?
The diesel SD1 isn't covered in my BL SD1 manual, but I'd guess it has different gearbox ratios. Late Vitesse have different ratios from other SD1 too.

Re: Automatic gearbox oil temperature
You could, of course, do as the SD1 does. The transmission cooler is in the rad. So will be heated too under some circumstances. And fill your trans up with coolant and turn your rad into strawberry milkshake when it springs a leak :) Not something I've heard of. :D It is simply a pipe looped throu...

Re: Engine fails to start after rebuild.
What we need is the cam driven by a servo motor, so MegaSquirt can adjust the timing.

Re: Engine fails to start after rebuild.
Must admit I've never understood this. They can machine a cam so all the valve timings are correct for each cylinder - but get the keyway position wrong?

Crank pulley
Pal has got a very stuck crank pulley on an SD1. Needed to be removed to replace the oil seal. Broke the pulley when using a puller. Any ideas why? Says the oil seal was replaced only a few years ago - and it came on and off easily then. Bolt seemed to be at a normal torque - ie pretty tight.

Re: The end of our cars?
Mate in the US (CA) has an SD1. The federal version of that uses a version of the Lucas 4CU injection - which is getting very long in the tooth, and some new spares difficult. Their 'MOT' is very hot on any mods. So I built an MS2 into the 4CU case for him. And managed to make it pretty well P&P, wi...

Re: P38 Rover V8s
In terms of the electronics, I've no idea how good the Gems system is. To do a real comparison between the inlet manifold designs, you'd need to use a properly tuned after market ECU with both (like say a MegaSquirt) Peak power has really not much to do with a standing quarter mile figure (within re...

Re: P38 Rover V8s
The long tract inlet system on the Thor is designed to maximize lower RPM torque, since it is fitted to a 4x4. The original Lucas injection which all the previous engines shared as regards the inlet design was originally meant for the Vitesse, a sports saloon.

Re: Shorten a bellhousing or get a tiny propshaft
Looking at mine, I reckoned you'd not need a plate after cutting out the unwanted bit - just weld the two 'halves' together. But beyond my expertise to say how you'd keep them aligned.

Re: Install Megasquirt on 3.9. Need help
Could be just me, but finding the bits I want in the manual can be confusing/long winded. So many different sections covering what I consider the same thing. So more an indexing thing. Can be worth editing it into one which only contains the bits you need. And then perhaps printing it out. I started...

Re: Shorten a bellhousing or get a tiny propshaft
The TC only really does any work below about 2000 rpm. And IIRC on the ZF gets locked out in top gear anyway. It would be doing its hardest work towing at low speeds in mud, etc. And is likely specced for that sort of thing. A Range Rover is a pretty heavy vehicle with a good towing capability. And ...

Re: Shorten a bellhousing or get a tiny propshaft
That would be because there is no ZF bell housing to fit the Stag engine. There is for the RV8.

Would you need the largest TC LR used on a light vehicle like a trike?

What mods are needed to mate the B-W bell housing to the ZF box?
