Thanks Guys I'm a novice at best when it comes to engine building and pistons cranks rods etc. But I do understand all that has been said. The problem is that unless I want to spend a silly amount of money having things purposely made for my engine I don't really have much of a choice. The pistons t...

https://preview.ibb.co/mBDfgk/IMG_2924.jpg Hopefully the new pistons will be fine they are certainly a lot better quality and having a full skirt at the bottom will help with stopping the piston going out of shape and causing that annoying rattle on over run that these engines suffer from a lot. Jo...

They are all the same and have all done over 60,000 miles over 10,000 with the Supercharger fitted. If you zoom in on the "go...

Thanks again guys I am taking the short engine to john Eales tomorrow to hopefully get sorted. At the very least it will be dynamically balanced, cross bolted, new Omega pistons and rebuilt as a short engine. How far I go above this is down to cost and what will be gained. Although the crank is a we...

That certainly looks the way to go I am really torn with putting it back to normally aspirated and spending a fortune getting it to accept the extra power of the charger. I've only had the car for just over a year and it's cost me a fortune getting it all working right only to end up having the majo...

Yes week crank and crap pistons says he has seen loads of 5.0 tvr cranks break on standard engines with 280bhp and it was only a matter of time before mine would probably go as well along with other pistons. TBH I actually know two people who have broken on a 5.0 crank on only Mildly tuned 300bhp

The piston broke a chunk awaywhere the valve cut outs are. They were a standard Tvr 5.0 piston which are a week piston anyway. Having spoken to John Eales today the best way forward is to either return it to NA or build a better short engine using a 4.6 crank, low compression forged pistons, steel r...

5.0 TVR Engine recommendation

Well after finally getting the car running perfectly 422bhp and 430FTLB Torque on the RR a piston has decided to let go part of the piston top where the valve cut outs are broke away so need something a bit stronger. Would like to retain the TVR engine but only if it can be made reliable. Any recomm...

Just a bit of an update. Fitted a 2 bar Map sensor over the weekend and tweaked the ignition map as best as I could on the road (booked in for a RR session on the 9th Aug) but results were very good. Nice clean acceleration very smooth idle and best of all no detonation. TBH I have probably gone a l...

Thanks again guys for your help. Just one more question if that's ok might seem a silly one to you guys but worth asking by a learner. Does it matter about the length of the tube from the inlet manifold to the Map sensor. The under bonnet area is always very hot so I would like to install it in the ...

I'm a little confused now what is best, I asked the question about locking the distributor when I was fitting the Omex and was told not to, he explained the reason why which seemed to make sense. This is roughly what he said. Firstly you need the original set up to work to set the Omex up so the ori...

Apologies for the late reply and many thanks for the responses so far. The Omex uses a trigger wheel from the crank. The distributor is not locked and is only used as a pointing devise to send the spark to the correct piston. The reason for not locking it is to help align the rotar arm to the correc...

Thanks guys The inputs are as follows MAF, TPS, Air intake Temp, Coolant temp, and a trigger wheel on the crank. The MAF is obviously not doing what it was supposed to do so I have a 2 bar MAP sensor on order and will fit that and get rid of the MAF input. Then off for mapping again hopefully this t...
