I have a set of alloy bearing race drifts, I'll use one of those, just to confirm then- Flush will be fine, they don't have to be below?
Thanks for the help,
Olly

V8 Core plugs
Hi all, Having issues replacing core plugs on my disco 3.9 serp. I have removed the downpipes, 1 manifold, the starter and both engine mounts and have the car on a ramp, I purchased new genuine LR core plugs and put them in using a hammer and a socket that fits just insider them, I hit them into jus...

3.9 disco - Using/ Interpreting Rovergauge
Hi All, Have just got Rovergauge working on my 99 Disco 3.9, I bought cable from ebay, WORKED FIRST TIME :-). what a brilliant piece of software! Anyhow, I need a little help interpreting the results and faults. First off my AFM is reading 27% on the direct scale, this seems low considering I have s...

my 3.9 disco does 17mpg average, have had the magic 24mpg on a 200 mile motorway journey on cruise control! Morte importantly it will do 19mpg on gas on a motorway run! on the same journey my dads Freelander 2 Diesel cost more to run. My 1971 rangey on twin SU's however only manages 15mpg average an...

Hi mate, photos as promised, took them from another spare rangerover as I couldn't be arsed to take my air cleaner off again! It is quite awkward to take photos behind the carbs so I took one of a spare carb I have as well. Hope it helps, Olly http://www.flickr.com/photos/63626304@N05/6601810419 htt...

Thanks Ron, Will give them a try, certainly a lot richer then my current ones, although identical almost at low-end, which is good as it runs fine there, I tried using a nice little program called winSU which reccomended me BCG needles, however these are extremely rich! Don't know if anyone else has...

SU Needdles
Hi all, Got a 1971 range rover with an sd1 v8 which has been rebuilt with a piper torquemax cam and port and polished heads, It is running twin SU's with BBZ needles and it seems to be running lean at speed (ok at idle and up to 1500 perhaps, it is actually difficult to get the car past 75mph.) Plug...

How far in would you thread the stromberg needles?
right in or so the brass bit is flush with the face of the piston?
many thanks,
olly

Have ordered to B1EJ needles for the strombergs, have also worked out that the timing marks are out so when cyl 1 is at tdc the timing mark is lined up at 8deg(ish) BTDC. Tweaking this has helped somewhat with the backfiring, I know the needles in there arent correct for this setup because the engin...

stromberg problems
hi, Just been tinkering with the range rover today, have sorted the cutting out problem (dizzy) the occasional almost dying problem (sticky needle valve) and now have the equally annoying backfiring through carb problem to deal with. The range rover is fitted with a 1980 sd1 engine, BUT it is fitted...

hi, engine has manual choke, took her out for a run today is running a little lean, believe it or not, will start to cut out when the engine has got hot, but off roading today, it did not cut out for at least half an hour. I am thinking it is something to do with the ignition system, I have changed ...

I ahve changed the coil, carb diaphragms, needles, plu...
