Maybe that's because your paws are greasy? A nice insulating layer of hydrogenated dinosaur fat between your mitts and the seal? :P

These are to run under the door on the outside of the car right? I hope you put a perforated stainless cover over them to keep legs from touching hot mufflers :P Do you get Coby stuff over there? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?searchType=0001-0877-1360-2895-&searchString=coby&typ...

Reading the original post again, I think the poster is actually asking about the engine serial number, rather than the casting date/type numbers. That is to be found on the top side of the timing cover extension, above the port and forward of the oil filter boss. Or it is on Aussie blocks like mine ...

I hit up google for the D0AE-J and got back it is a 2 bolt 1970 351C block. So the casting date of 23-Dec-1969 would fit.

That's an early block :P

They are upside down. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/redhouse53/P1010173.jpg 9M23 date casting... that's Year ending in 9, M= 13th letter but Ford dropped the I, making it the 12th month, 23= the 23rd day. Liebherr make some nice bits of machinery, the local contractors where I used to live had a Liebherr dozer and a Liebherr excavator, seeing the excavator parked next to the Samsung excavator they had you can see why the samsungs are so much cheaper. They sold the samsung and replaced it with a Volvo...

if theres not much room below, how much room is there alongside the pipes? Heres a VERY crude MS paint representation, can you have the exhaust guys make a side chamber, like a cherry bomb or resonator, but only to one side rather than all the way around the pipe? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4001...

Re: Stolen facts I stubled across!

Honda devised an efficient engine with a clean exhaust system that didn't require a catalytic converter. However, the three US car giants all had shares in cat-making companies and successfully lobbied government agencies to rule for cats and against cleaner engines. Nissans L series 6 cyl engines ...

Would be interesting to see what the difference between a stock 3.5 mid/late 70's P6B and a stock mid 80's LR head is. I got a pair of '80s LR heads to replace the P6 ones on my P6 lump.

Lovely, sounds like a visit to the scrappy is due in the new year. Not sure I find the Holden anywhere in the UK tho! I think they called the Vauxhalls in the UK :D are there any 3.8 V6 engined Vauxies? since GM and Holden and Vauxhall are effectively the same thing, if you have a v6 3.8 Vauxhall, ...

if you want to bend your holey tube why not use a modification of the ice crush method? when bending solid tube on a hydraulic bender, bending empty tube can crush in the inner side of the tube and narrow the effective inner diamensions of the tube. A way to avoid that is to plug one end and fill it...

thats why i quite like Hybridz for my nissan stuff, the main folks over their are deep into modifying their Z cars, and a judacious usage of the search button has pretty much everything you will ever need on stuffing ANY sort of motor into a Fairlady Z. :D

well, standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is 14.7 psi, so 7 psi is about +45% on N/A pressure, so figure the engines are a bit less efficient, and call it between 30% and 40% more power than unboosted. A lot will depend on your valve timing and ignition setups.
