3.9 relined?
hi folks, just rebuilt an interim 3.9 rv8 and fitted it to my disco, i have another interim 3.9 to rebuild for my 100" hybrid off roader, BUT found the old engine ive just taken out of the disco is a cross bolt block. one reason it came out was the poor state of 2 of the bores and i suspect possibly...

right finally got round to stripping the rest of the bottom end and it would indeed appear the centre main only has a thrust bearing on the block side, the cap shell looks standard. o thanks guys will be ordering 2 sets of standard 3.9 shells. why they justify between £160-£200 just for this is beyo...

hideously expensive main bearings?
i have a lateish(1998) serpentine 3.9 disco engine to rebuild, it would seem it uses a 4.0/4.6 block with a 3.9 crank as the crossbolt castings are there on the block but not drilled also has full width mains carriers but not drilled and tapped for cross bolts etc. the problem is main bearings appea...

disco's an auto, nuff said! never got a series v8 disco of any type to do more than 16 mpg at most though, thats what happens when your car is a bit fat and as aerodynamic as a cathedral! dont beleive anyone who spouts off about 30 mpg from a rover v8. perfect family motor and dog carrier though, mi...

yep, take on board all the above, have to say i fitted them with some minor tweaking and a clean out over a year ago with a view to tuning them properly once the rest of the motor was sorted, but never got round to it and havn't touched them since. the set up runs incredibly well and suprisingly eff...

not too worried about the emissions, it'll go in on lpg. the mot was brought in many years ago to make sure all cars were at a safe minimum standard to be on the road, so tell me what the hell have emissions got to do with safety and in what way does your car become dangerous on the road cause its e...

weber/eddy 500 on a 3.9 disco
sick of the usual efi electronic problems and the engine running like a bag of spanners all the time so time for change back to simple and effective! i have a disco 3.9 efi, lucas dizzy, with brc "just" lpg, and aquired a straight from the box weber 500, but jetted/setup for 4.6. i'm planning to fit...

weird plug fault
i have a disco, 3.9, standard lucas efi auto with lpg(induction type), k&n filter, flame thrower coil and magnacor leads. i've have always used ngk plugs on all my v8's(and i have many) for some reason no1 plug always cracks the ceramic around the electrode after a couple of months and naturally ind...

yep weird one, deffo looked more like flame than spark, i'm not getting any crank pressure issues/oil leaks and it comes and goes, you can feel the extra pot/pots kicking in or cutting out. last time i had a detonation in the sump was a knackered old meastro van and it shot the dipstick out like a j...
