After a disatrous purchase of a pair of TVR manifolds that A, will not fit, and B, really will not fit, I have been trawling Ebay for an alternative manifold solution for the SD1 Rally car I am building.

P38 Rangie manifolds seem to be in abundance, question is, are they any good? If looks are owt to go by, they look like they would do the job admirably, but I would like to throw it out to you guys before I buy a pair.

TIA, Lee.

Hi
As cast manifolds go they are pretty good, they can be improved if you can make the hole down the middle bigger. You can get special grinding paste forced down the inside of the casting under high pressure that effectivly "flowes" the casting for you as it increases it's diamiter, but it costs about the same as a set of tubular manifolds so is only really used to get around group N regulations.
To be honnest if you are going for out and out power and torque you want tubular manifolds, (and they will save about 15 to20lb in weight) if you want about 200 to 210 bhp and cheep easy power that won't fall apart on you then go for the RR ones.
Best regards

The P38 ones are tubular, not cast!

IMHO they are very good, because they were designed for the highest output versions of the RV8. And they are single outlet, which makes fabricating the rest of the system easier.

I've put a pair on the escort back to front so the pipes come out the front bumper. They look the nuts to me.

Lee!!
PM me to discuss selling your TVR manifolds when you get a mo please.

If space is tight I have a pair of custom made sheet metal (yes! sheet metal) RV8 exhaust manifolds that I'm sure are the tightest you will ever get for clearance around the engine. They are made to take 2" pipe straight from the end of the manifold. They may just solve a problem for you??
But they are totally custom, I dont think you will ever have seen any like this..
