Hello all...I need some help. I am wanting to convert a range rover 4.0 to a distributor. I need any help you can offer as far as part numbers or just advice. There are plenty of buick 231(v6) engines around and I almost think that timing cover will work. If it will and if you know of any of the other parts(numbers) I can sure use your help.... Thanks

the advantage of using the intermediate cover is you get the better oil pump, Im 99% certain the buick V6 cover fits, I seem to remember there may be a small spacer required on the crank snout so everything will tighten up in the right place,

The pre 99 Discoveries used the crank driven oil pump and a front cover that used a distributor.

The MSD distributors are good but you need their CDI to run it.

I use the Aussie made Scrorcher produced by Performance Ignition Services in Melbourne in both my SD1 and Disco. It uses all commonly available Bosch internals, is ultra reliable and can be ordered with a custom advance curve to suit your engine spec.

Another interesting dissy now being offered for the RV8 is the Davis Unified Ignitions one which has the module and ignition coil all integrated into the distributor GM style.

Toolman243,

Whichever cover you use, you will also need to use a 3.9 or earlier type camshaft.
I don't know much about the v6 covers but if you use a serp 3.9 type cover, you will need to arrange for the water pump to rotate anticlockwise and of course install a tensioner pulley etc.

Other thing you may need to consider is the position of the water pump. The SD1 front cover has the pump rather lower set than the Rangie one.
