Rover V8 - high prices?

I bought the 3 Rover V8 engines I have for about £80 each a couple of years ago. OK, at that price they all needed work but were good starting blocks to build from.

Been looking around again recently and they all seem to be considerably more expensive. Funny thing is, there still seem to be just as many about so why the hike in price?

Cost of scrap metal is the main reason, you can get 40/50 quid for the block because the cost of raw materials are so high, that's why all this scrap metal copper/alloy is getting nicked

Piston ring prices seem to have gone skyward as well. I bet thertes a lot of folk buying from ebay thinking they must be a bargain when a few of the good suppliers are still selling at sensible prices.

The other night 4.6 rings on ebay seemed to be starting at £85 ish.
Real Steel still seem to be the cheapest at £45 a set.

To be honest, it still amazes me just how cheap these engines are, I sold a genuine 62000 mile, SD1 Vitesse engine (reputedly 190bhp  ) recently for £150, absolutely complete.

And for reasons even I can't explain, yesterday I bought another one from a Discovery, again complete with flywheel, injection system, the works for £100.

I do have to chuckle though when people break the engines, and ask ridiculous money for individual parts, for instance, I saw an injection inlet manifold, just a boggo single plenumn set up, starting price £595!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
