iv got a manual choke on my eddy 500, iv not connected it up yet, but with the colder weather i think nows the time. Is it best as manual or convert to electric choke?

Manual choke is fine, and better IMO because you have control.

A lot of folk dont bother with choke on these carbs as 3-4 pumps of the pedal and a few seconds wait after this will see the engine burst into life so you can pick it up on the pedal for a couple of mins until it will idle.

I have a few mates who have connected their chokes and they work just fine.

I wouldnt bother messing with setting up an auto choke myself.

Just my opinion FWIW !

i was thinking that myself, i think my carb needs setting up. its popping through the exhausts when cold, plugs are sooty. going to stick with manual choke. Where do you get the proper linkage for the manual eddy 500 choke?

The choke linkage should be on the carb already. You just need a cable clamp and somewhere to mount the dash cable pull.
all my mates have MGB's and just re use the existing choke cable that they clamp onto the 4 barrel carb.

If its popping back when cold and your plugs are always sooty the carb just needs a bit of tweaking. If you get yourself a jetting kit you can faff around until you find what is right for your engine.
