Hi.
My rover v8 number is 10A2674 with a compression ratio of 9.35.1CR
At first glance it looks like the SD1 engine number, but there is one number and one letter short.
I'm going to try to attach an image...

Any ideas anyone?

Perhaps they went on strike during the stamping of the number!
I don't know how the numbers were stamped, but perhaps the jig was misaligned and stamped the final two digits in thin air.....?!

Thanks for you reply.
If I assume it is the SD1 engine, are there any other features on it other than the engine number that would confirm it is an SD1?
It's has LPG, so they could have changed the carbs, but it does have SU's fitted rather than Strombergs.
The oil filler is front-right as you look at the landy from the front.

10A is a carbed SD1, number must have been mis stamped, number location is correct for "later" V8's after P6's

The water pump / timing cover is the biggest difference between 4x4 and car engines. The 4x4 one is much higher up.
Post up a few pics of the whole lot.

Here's a few more photos. I've also just had to replace the starter motor which seems to be different to most starter motors advertised for the Rover V8. Might give us a clue!

10A is the prefix for a manual SD1 engine, and all your pics including the starter motor would confirm that. Engine flame trap, rocker covers, carbs, water pump and alternator bracket are all SD1.

That's great! Thanks for your help. I was under the impression that the SD1 was fitted with Strombergs, not sure why.

Early ones were. Later ones ended up with the electronic control SUs. A much maligned carb.

The first SD1s had SUs, it was the later ones that got Srombergs.
