Help needed to ID engine

Can anyone id this engine block for me, Its a Rover V8, stamped with

I think its going to be difficult to identify from a casting number.

There should be a flat surface about level with the top of the cylinders above where the dipstick enters the block (the far side as per your second photo). The engine number should be stamped there - its the first 3 digits that count (Eg, 10) which helps to identify the engine

Ta will ask the bloke for that number. never had a v8 so still learning, so must the bloke with this engine.
