Mismatched or aftermarket rotor or dizzy cap

You do need the right sort of coil for your particular ignition system. I have burned out a few coils in the past before realising that the coils were for a different ignition system. That's the problem with a 'bitsa' setup.

SD1 V-8s all have electronic ignition, and for best results need the correct coil. And there are different types of ignition, depending on age.

ive not changed anything since it was last driven other than plugs and leads. what type of coil should i look for, i know electronic, but what part number or name etc..
im also a bit concerned it may be a bent valve as the throttle stuck last week at full wack! :? so i may be looking for a head gasket kit and valve, anyone got such parts.. Thanks for your help guys all the same

You need to identify the type of ignition you have. Earlier types use a ballast system, later not. The full dizzy number would help.

Cap is 5402212 lucas
Coil, it doesnt have any markings so imnot sure if its 9 or 12v

I do have anothe dizzy, lucas 54420642. This needs cap etc but it has points and a dwell adjuster by the vacum. Is this whats known as the 2 wire type, others ive seen have a box on the side but this doesnt..
