Rule of thumb is you take the engine cubic inch and multiply by the maximum RPM and divide by 3456. If you have an automatic transmission you will need a vacuum sec. carb, a standard transmission can use a Double Pumper carb.
This is for Holley carbs
So:
5200 cubic centimeter = 317cubic inch
317x5800= 1838600 / 3456 = 532 so a Weber 500 will do for normal use.
You can juggle the figures to suit your needs. But if you want good performance then fit a 600 double pumper and jet it down to suit.. You can tweak a 600dp to run well on a 3500 once you know how to set it up.
I use a DP (not vac sec) on my auto and its fine for race use.
This is by no means the be all and end all Andy but it gives you the basics..

Your inlet manifold is going to come into play here, I only have experience of two....
The Eddy Performer 180 is a good one but quite high, the Offy dual port is much lower but in my humble is not a good manifold. (V8 Dev reckon that they have seen a 30 BHP loss on big RV8 engines when compared to the Eddy manifold)
