I just shredded my second drive gear in 9 months. (the one on the end of the cam)
It had plenty of oil and the pump is reasonably free to turn without any catching. I'm just draining the fluids now to get the front off the engine to see how bad it is. The last one I fitted did not have the groove in it to let the oil out. I believe it was the wrong one for my pre sd1 engine. The second new one was from Rimmers and has the groove and it was getting oil as I checked several times over a few months by letting it tickover for a few mins and pulling the dissy out to find plenty of oil dripping from the drive. I must admit, the new cog did seem pretty soft. Are there any better ones about ?

are you running high oil pressure relief valve or anything like that as these put a lot of strain on the drive. I am assuming your changing the gear on the end of the dizzy as well as they should be changed at the same time. The P6 style was never the best and this was one of the symptoms as the shaft isnt supported very well.

I don't know if they are any better but I got one from Real Steel for about 40 quid.

I might already know this but there is a mod envolving an external feed pipe which is supposed to squirt oil diectly at the gear.

I'm running a hi-flow pump kit, but she still maintains normal oil pressure. Real Steel dont do the cam cog anymore. I get them from Rimmers for around 50 quid. Bloody expensive for a little cog.
My oil pressure cold is 50 psi, at hot idle its around 38psi.
I've seen the mod of the external feed pipe in the 'Tuning the Rover V8' book. I'm thinking that may help, but I do have good oil flow to the drive.
I think it may be the extra resistance of the hi flow pump.
When it went last time, it shredded the dissy dog as well. The drive cog on the new Mallory dissy is virtually unharmed. I do have a new cog for the dissy though.
