Hi all of you, you have all probably had this question a million times but Im new to V8s so Im in the right place. I have got a SD1 engine(so im told) in my wonderful series 2 landrover but I cannot for the life of me get a spark at the plug. Could anyone please take the time to tell me in which order do I make checks to find out the problem as I cant wait to hear her burble. It is fitted with an lumenition ignition unit to and i have re-newed the coil. Im not bad engine tinkering so you dont have to go into much detail if that helps. Many thanks Lee

Hi
I have scanned the Lumenition instructions that include fault finding. PM me your email and I'll send it to you.

Hit the PM button on the bottom of Stu's post. Then type in your e-mail address into the message box. And a subject too.

Hi Stu, tested it as shown. But it has confused me more now I've got the 2.5v across the blue and black wires but when you break the beam it's supposed to drop to 1v but it doesn't so makes me think that is the beam part which is naff but the when I test the red wire which you read 7.5v there's nothing which makes me think it must be the module. Or maybe both who knows. All I know is I cannot get a spark at the plug for love or money. I wonder if there is any company who couldtest it all? Or do I get a new dizzy with built in amp and do away with the lumenition alltogether.

Hi
I've just done the tests on my unit.
I have 7.5 volts on the red wire.
2.6 volts between the blue and black wires when beam not interrupted and 0.8 volts when it is interrupted.
Did you try joining the blue and the back wires at the connector?

Hi stu. Yes I have 2.6v across the blue and black wire when you block the beam nothing happens to the voltage. Also there isn't anything voltage wise from the red wire. I've got 12v going into the part on the bulk head.

If you link the blue and the black wires together you should get a spark if the module is working, it by-passes the optical sensor.
The other thing to do is make sure it's got a good earth.
