I'm on the hunt for a 4 speed 700R-4 for my Camaro, does anybody know where i can get one. Second hand will do as the Spitfire is swallowing all my money.

Somebody had said to me that Hi-lux truck used the same autobox, does anyone know if this true and if any other vehicles used this box.

Cheers

Chris

There's a faulty one on ebay right now:

Its lost 3rd gear which is a very common failure. Says can be rebuilt for £150, but realisticly i would spend more money fixing that weak 3rd gear otherwise you will be pulling it out again.

Having many problems with these, i finally have arrived at a combination of parts which seems to work well. More info here: http://www.mez.co.uk/Chevy700r4pg3.html

Thaqnks guys,

think I have managed to source a second hand box from American Car Supplies.

They have also offered me a 5ltr V8 and box, they have just removed from a Camaro. Pretty tempting, but how do I get two engine transplants past the girlfriend. Also how do i explain two V8's.

Oh, what do i do. Or when do I get the time.

Give her some money to buy some shoes. Always works for me! :D :D :D

Tried that in the past.

She's now pushing for that diamond thing on her finger.

It took enough for her to let me rip her beloved Spitfire to bits pretending to restore it, but little did she know I was planning to put a rover v8 in to the wee car.

I might just try sneaking it past her. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

just say you ordered a gearbox and you got a free engine.

First thing to do when it arrives (or before you commit) it to pull the pan and inspect the inside - the colour and amount of goo in the bottom will tell you alot about the boxes general health.

Good idea, it would only be a little lie.

Will take the sump pan off soon as it arrives, if I buy it they have to ship up to me from Kent.

Thanks

Hello i have a 700r4 from an 87 iroc z28. im considering tearing it apart to make it fit a 4x4. im not sure where u live but my guess is it would cost far too much to ship to u. As long as the truck is two wheel drive the transmission will fit just fine. you will have to change the extention housing to attach you rear end traction bar.
