How to wire up a hal effect dizzy?

Hi all, just wrapped up warm and had another go at getting my 302 v8 running, it appears to have a hall effect distributor, with 3 wires coming from it, tried wiring it up how i thought right, but got no spark. 2 wires go to the actual wire coil thingy inside the dizzy, and one goes to the the metal plate on the base of the dizzy, but instead of my crap descripton, this picture should explain better..

So basically, where do the 3 wires that come out go to?!

Looks similar to the later Rover/Lucas electrionic set up.

What is the make and model of the distributor? you may find wiring info on the web.

It appears to have a plug on the other end from the dizzy poss to plug into a specific coil, what are the wires your talking about?

Make sure you have a compatable coil for it with suitable resistance.

Right, just been out and taken off the dizzy to have a closer look, it is made by motorcraft, and on the body of the dizzy itself says motorcraft 12127, there was also a metal tag clinging on which reads, 37 D9BE 12127 CA 8J 11, been hunting around on the internet but not found a definitive answer as to what exactly it is, and no wiring diagrams as yet. The plug i mentioned only goes into 3 other wires that have been hashed on previously, nothing to do with a specific coil, which came with the engine. I assume the plug is only there for ease of removal.. So, any ideas as to what it is / how to wire? Thanks again!

And it does have a vacuum advance.

As the picture describes, there should be an ignition module that fires the coil which takes it's signal from the pick up coil in the distributor.What year was it made, I may have a wiring diagram .

Thanks for that truck doctor! as soon as i saw that photo you posted i though, aha, i had one of those modules (off a granada or something) but threw it away.. a quick christmas day rummage through my scrap pile and i found it. wired it up yesterday and was getting a spark no probem, but i had no fuel.. been and got some today and after realising the dizzy was 180 out.. still not running :( just seem to be getting lots of big flames and no real bangs, which shows its at least getting fuel and a spark. so tried playing with the timing back and forth, but still wont go. How much mechanical advance should there be? about 6 degrees i have at the moment, but been going either side. On the crank, there is a timing mark, but on the thing thaty points to it, there is a small pointer, but also a round looking hole thing, which one of them should TDC be set with? i really am clutching at staws now, might go put a decent battery on and try again..

When I fitted a Granada/Capri Duraspark box on my F250 ( 400 V8 ) I found that US spec and EU spec Durasparkboxes use a differend collorcode.
I had to switch two cables. Thought it was Orange goes to Purple & Purple goes to Orange.

Beware also that included in this system is a resistor wire that puts around 7 Volts on the coil. There's a differend resistor wire used as with a pointsstyle ignition ( differend coil also).

You could also use a MSD 6 series box whixh hooks up easely on your dizzy.
