9M23 date casting... that's Year ending in 9, M= 13th letter but Ford dropped the I, making it the 12th month, 23= the 23rd day.

So do you have a 23rd December 1969 block or a 23rd December 1979 block?

Mines an Aussie 302C with Block Type casting D2AE-CA and Date casting 3E2, or 2nd May 1973.ALL Aussie castings other than the XE racing ones and the '80's "Pillow" blocks were D2AE-CA :P

I would take a guess it is a '69 block and Markie has had is sat on the bottom of the Forth for the last ten years with his boat moored to it ! :chase There is so much metal in them that as you can see it has hardly suffered at all!
Best regards

I hit up google for the D0AE-J and got back it is a 2 bolt 1970 351C block. So the casting date of 23-Dec-1969 would fit.

That's an early block :P

sorry didnt see the reply to this till now. Block isnt mine, its just a pic I found on the net. I had a 351C in a Sierra many years ago with Aussie heads and all that. Was a tight squeeze and weight about the same as the rest of the car lol. The inlet manifold weighed about the same as an RV8. What an engine though! If I remember right, it was a Boss block I had as well but not the heads. The American 4V heads are pretty unusable unless your doing something pretty special.

Reading the original post again, I think the poster is actually asking about the engine serial number, rather than the casting date/type numbers.

That is to be found on the top side of the timing cover extension, above the port and forward of the oil filter boss.

Or it is on Aussie blocks like mine anyway.
