Hi. I am rebuilding a Rover v8 p6 engine the engine number starts with
481----- D and a compresion ratio of 9.25-1.
I have looked at several sites and asked different people and this combination is a bit of a mystery, Has it been stamped wrong or is it for a different country hope someone can let me know many thanks Ray.

It's a 3500S (manual) engine. Even though the engines were exactly the same as the autos apart from the spigot bush they were numbered up starting 481 instead of 451 on the autos. "D" suffix, and that, lower cr means it would have the lip rear seal, and be from one of the later cars, say about 1974/5 onwards.
