Hi there,
would a pair of Standard Honda Blackbird silencers work ok along the side of a V8 seven type car?

Really depends on what you mean by work, the bike ones will be tuned to remove frequencies totally different to those resulting from the rover engine also the cylinder size is totally different so peek flow requirments will not be adaquate for the rover. If you have a couple lying around I would try them, if not I would look for something intended for a car engine.

Bikes do rev to above 2x the rpm of the V8. How big is the bike engine? Probably flow wise they might be about the same volume of gas per second?

The Bike is about 1137 i think. My father sold the engine and a damaged bike to a guy last year who was to put it into a ff rf84 van diemen hill climb car. I think he still has the exhausts lying about slightly scuffed. I could get them for very little, fit them to my car and get it on the road/track, but i wouldn't do it if it was going to hinder the performance badly.

Simple Maths

1100cc * 10 000 rpm = 11 000 000 / 2 (Four stroke engine) = 5,500,000cc per minute

4000cc * 6000 rpm = 24 000 000 / 2 (four stroke engine) = 12,000,000

So I would think the boxes would be extremely restrictive

What inlet and outlet bore are they? I'd imagine you want 2.5 inch on each side for it to breath reasonably

Ah yes, but you could do a similar calculation on BHP, and work out that an RV8 is twice the power of a bike engine, so two bike silencers should be OK....?

But I think the bike uses two as well?

Ah, well, I know naff all about bikes!, in that case, you'd need four.....

Don't think they will work or flow enough, they also have catalytic converters built into them and are an odd shape to fit under a car. Blackbird racing cans might be a better bet but I still think they will be too small.

These are to run under the door on the outside of the car right? I hope you put a perforated stainless cover over them to keep legs from touching hot mufflers

Otherwise head over to your local friendly tractor shack and have a look at their range of vertical pipes they should lie horizontal just as well as vertical, and are pretty damn simple inside. I know guys using tractor mufflers under their "old skool" KE20 and 120Y or similar 60's or 70's old sedans for a deeper rumble.
