Is a Carter AFB 9503 the same carb (or as simiar as dammnit) to an Edelbrock 1403/4 Please?
They are both 500cfm and also look pretty much the same

Not sure of the Model No. but a friend has a Carter 500 AFB and it is identical to the Edelbrock and I recalibrated it for him with Edelbrock rods and jets.
Incidentally a carter 400 is a very good carb for a 3.5

If I recall correctly from David Hardcastle's book, the 500 cfm Edelbrock is a replica of the Carter.
Edit: I think that's where I read it anyway...

I have a Carter 500 and an Eddy 500. Compairing the two the primary booster venturies are much thicker on the Eddy carb than the Carter.
In my opinion using an Edelbrock 500 jet/rod setting on a Carter 500 will give different results when compared with the same set up on the Edelbrock carb.
You may have to experiment with different Rods/Jets to achieve the right setting for your engine.

Finally got round to taking a couple of pics of the different primary booster venturies in both carbs. The thicker ones are the Edelbrock 500. The choke has been removed on the Carter. Secondary boosters are the same in both carbs
I have measured the throttle sizes on both carbs, they are the same for both primarys and secondaries.
