Rover V8 with a BMW 5 speed box - I've been told that alot of the kit car boys are starting to use this conversion using an obtainable adaptor plate. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

I looked into the BMW gearbox route before going the T5 route.
Most I think use a Getrag box and again I think most don't use an over drive box so 5th or 6th would be 1 to 1, same as 4th on a T5.
My diff ratio ment that it wasn't suited to me engine (4.6), better off with a screaming straight 6!
I'd check the ratios would work with your set up before you go any further.
Behind the rover V8 i'd go a Tremec T5 out of a smashed TVR. (as I did)
Tom.

BMW manual boxes are either ZF or Getrag. The ZF 5 speeds are 1:1 top gear, and the Getrag 6 speed, as in the E36 M3, E39 M5, E34 540i are 1:1 5th and overdrive in 6th, I can't remember the ratio though (I think it is 0.85 or thereabouts) Be wary of the Getrag 6 speed though, although they are a very strong box, you cannot buy any parts for them from BMW! I have seen a few (mostly in race cars) where the synchros are worn, and they cannot be rebuilt.
