A couple of years ago I started work on my dream car, the one car I always wanted since I was a young 'un: a Deuce Coupe hot rod. As per American Grafitti.

It is featured in Garage Scene if anybody wants to see more.

I've been doing a fair bit of work on it recently, got the brakes all but plumbed in, stainless firewall, all the main engineering done, and added a whole bunch of little bits and bobs etc. Body is nigh on ready for paint, a sample of which can be seen on the cowl. Earlier this year I made a real push, spent a bunch of money on lots of nice quality bits to try and get it sorted ready for the summer.





Then a massive change of plans came along........ and I've sold it.

Yes, someone has come and taken away my baby, so close to completion. I could have cried. Two years work, gone in a couple of hours.

We've decided to move back to the Philippines, the place I lived for nearly ten years before moving to the UK in '02.

I've not been on the forum much lately, with working on the car, then suddenly so much running round and organising to do, packing away everything we own and shipping it to the other side of the world.

Here is my baby, seen for the last time, on another mans trailer. I was gutted, empty, heartbroken, when I walked back into the garage and it was just an empty space.



But the V8 bug is still there, and I hurriedly bought a 'glass hot rod body off Ebay to shove in the container and take with us. So there is some light at the end of the tunnel. It is a '28 Model A Roadster Pickup, also has doors, a radiator surround, dashboard etc. And in the fullness of time it will sport a suitably oversized 8 cylinder motor of the obligatory format.

Cheers Tony, I'll still be on the forum, when things settle down a little over there. I'm offshore for the next five weeks, then I fly to the PI, but the wife and daughter are already there, house hunting.

Plan originally was to take the hot rod with us, but the sheer hassle of shipping it, and then sorting registration, taxes, duties, bribes etc was a little too daunting.

Good luck to you and your family in your new(ish) life. Reading your post made me realise how I would feel selling my baby so my heart (in a gruff manly way) goes out to you.

On a lighter note make us really sick by telling us what the house prices, tax and fuel costs are out there?

Petrol is 40p a litre, but diesiesel is only 30p

House prices can be cheap, but the wife has managed to find us a place that costs the same as the house we are renting out in the UK!? Typical woman.

It does appear to have a large car port, a large back yard, and a big maids room I can use as a store room/workshop.

When you get settled post up some pictures of the view from your house, tropical flowers, blue skys, mad local transport solutions always make me pig sick with jelousy. Arn't there loads of Wilies Jeeps out there? good basis for a V8 project if you ask me. . .

They used to build a lot of Jeeps from the ground up, with full stainless bodywork etc. Some were very impressive. Nowadays it is easier and cheaper to import used Toyotas from Korea and Japan I think.

Of course, you can buy them in parts, chassis, bodywork, trim etc, all for a very reasonable price.

This is the house we are hoping to rent, wife is supposed to sign for it this Saturday. The rent is far more than I wanted to pay, but she reckons there is very little else available. Yeah, right, we all heard that before....

Here's a website that is primarily about the V8 scene in the area we're moving to. I used to race the car called Blown Crazy, a '67 Camaro with a 500hp 327 motor. It wasn't mine, but I used to rent it off the owner, a buddy of mine. £20 a day! He is the guy behind 'Garage Power' and has several Camaros and a few other interesting toys....
