Tubbed or untubbed, with lots of torque that you will be developing, it will need to be tough, In my Mk2 Cortina I use a Toyota Celice hatch LSD, It has had some serious abuse and not broken, The need for a strong axle is dictated by the amount of traction, I only use 225/50.15s under standard arches on leaf springs, and still manage 1.7sec 60fts,
I would be thinking 9" and probably a 31 spline at a minimum, 4HA salsbury from a Scimitar, 10 bolt or 12 bolt.
do you know what width you want to use,??

width wise standard cortina width.wheel options are my slot mags which have 265 70 14 or the escort cosworth rimms i have.rear arches have been extended to accomadate the mags very subtely.
eventualy want ford 9" but i want the car on the road this year so the budget is less hence a different axle.theres a fiew scimitars in a local scrap yard i know of will they be man enough then

the axle is the same basic item as the mk2 jag, and very similar to the Dana 44, but not identical

I can measure the scimitar one under the back of my viva .Definitely a good budget option and with a jag powerlok diff fitted certainly does the business plus it was virtually the same width as the standard viva axle so no arch faffing etc.If i think i'll measure it 2moro

going the best way ford 9" now just have to save a fiew more pennies .
getting the car space framed now tagged to 7.50.
head ache time what size wheels thats where i get lost.
reckon on 10x15x30 roughly now the back space does that matter yet
this is where i get totaly lost .do i need to no what brake ect i will be using on the rear before i can get any wheels to no what back space i need .
plus do i need to know the width i want the rear axle before any wheels.
enliten me!
