I have just aquired a Rover V8 engine which I think is either Range Rover or Land Rover but none of the lists seem to include this range of engine numbers.
The number is 95600017A and above it in smaller characters 85 1CR
can any one identify it for me.

Prefix 45 (which could look like 95?) is rover P6 and would tie in with the compression ratio (second set of numbers) of 8.5:1
Maybe of some help although not definative!!

I thought P6 engines were either 9.25:1 or 10.25:1
MGB V8's and Rangy V8's were 8.5:1 (or there abouts)

no, there is no doubt the number definately starts with a 9
It is on the bench clear as day 95600017A
could it be a number for a block supplied as a spare part?
