RV8 oil pressure transmitter - SD1 and P6B - thread size(s)?

O wise ones - is the thread size the same on both a P6B oil pressure transmitter and also on an SD1 item? I have an SD1 timing cover and oil pump on an engine going in a P6B, I've just been told the transmitter and gauge are incompatible, which will give a false reading. I have the workshop manual for my '72 P6B but it doesn't indicate the thread size. I don't have a workshop manual for an SD1. Anybody on here know if I can fit an older P6B transmitter into the newer SD1 oil pump?

Hello Alasdair,
The threads are identical. When I trialled an SD1 sender during the early 1990s my Rover was still happily running on the original 1974 P6B engine, so the oil pump front cover was P6B. The sender screwed in correctly, no problem at all. I have also seen an original P6 Smiths sender screwed into an SD1 oil pump front cover with the same effect.

Hello Ron
Thanks for confirming that the thread size is the same on both oil pressure transmitters. I've ordered the correct P6 item now, and hope that it will function properly and show a nice healthy oil pressure reading when my engine transplant is complete! See you on the other forum!
