Just had a thought,
Will a Ford Transit RWD gearbox go on an RV8, or can you get an adaptor plate?
Reason is that the gearstick is in just te right place and they are robust and high geared for the diesel engines and also cheap and plentifull.

Cant be that easy can it??

My experience with Diesel boxes is that they are very strong and the pre FWD Transit transmissions usually outlasted the bodywork.

How good are the gearchanges for track use though on an old transit box?

Depends which particular box your on about whether it has a cast on bellhousing or not. There arent any off the shelf conversions for the simple reason that they don't hold up to the V8. Newer boxes need a DMF or the input bearing fail rapidly. You have to remember than vans have totally different diff ratios which can give a box an easier time with the weight. Depending on spec of engine you also have a lot more torque and HP than any transit.

Makes sense.
So today I sourced a low mileage late SD1 Vitess box with all the bits inc flywheel. Lucky find I thought and relatively local :D

So in a couple of weeks time I should have it bolted up and the engine and box lined up in the chassis. That's the plan anyway
